Delicious Blog Post Ideas

Tangy kiwi by Roger Smith on FlickrCan you bear one more post about the social bookmarking site, delicious? It used to be called del.icio.us, but they’ve eliminated those pesky dots, which makes the exact URL a whole lot easier to remember. Today I want to share a quick tip that I’m using to find and remember blog post ideas.

When you find an interesting news item, blog post, or even a photo, bookmark it to delicious and tag it “toblog.” Add a note to yourself in the comment box and an expiration date, if it’s time-sensitive. Since this is a personal note, not meant for sharing, click the “do not share” box. That’s all there is to it. Now wasn’t that quick and easy?

When you’re looking for inspiration for your next blog post, simply log back into delicious and search on “toblog” in your bookmarks. Keep your list tidy by editing your bookmark as soon as it’s been used in a blog post. Remove “toblog” and add any tags that you or other viewers might find useful in the future. Be sure to uncheck the “do not share” box.

I’m using variations of the same idea to keep track of blog directory submissions. One of my bookmarks leads to a huge list of blog directories. It’s tagged “todo” and not shared. As I work through the list, I add a comment to the bookmark to show where I’ve left off and the date of my last submission.

There must be hundreds of other uses for delicious bookmarks. How do you use delicious or other social bookmarking sites?
