Did you know that you can feature a coupon in your Google Local Maps listing? Now that’s a less than 30-minute task, if I’ve ever heard one!

Apparently Google’s coupon feature is a well-kept secret … or at least you’d think so. After three different searches through Google Maps, I only found one business making use of it. But if you’re paying to send out postcards, fliers or advertisements with coupons, why wouldn’t you also want to place a coupon online, where there’s no cost to you for distribution? Coupons offer an easy incentive for potential customers to do business with you when they find you in Google Maps. They’re easy to set up, easy for customers to print and present to you at your business location, and FREE!
To begin, you DO have a listing on Google’s Local Business Center, right? There’s no cost, but you’ll need a Google account and a verified listing on Google Local Business Center to be able to take advantage of this opportunity.
To create a coupon:
- Log into the Google Local Business Center.
- Click on the Coupons tab, then click Add new coupon.
- Fill out each field that you want to appear on your coupon … check the results in the preview section on the right side of the page.
- When it looks the way you want it to, click Continue.
That’s all there is to it. Within 24 hours, the coupon will be visible on your Google Maps listing. Find it in Maps by clicking more info, then clicking the Coupons tab.

We followed your instructions on creating a Google coupon. It was extremely easy!
Great tip – Thank You!
Thanks, Julie. I’m glad you found it useful!
Shari,
One of my clients uses the coupon form as a call to action for a promotion on a corporate website. They do this primarily because they don’t want prospective clients to print a coupon–they want the prospective client to visit the listed microsite, and register their info for the promotion. It works pretty good…
Tom, what a great idea. Thanks for sharing! By the way, I’ve just subscribed to your blog and am recommending it to our readers as a very useful online marketing resource.
I’ve never heard of this before, but I will be sure to check it out. I read that coupons are being used now more than ever before. I think we could all benefit from new ways of using them. I just read an article about mobile coupons that could be sent to your phone.
